Swallowtail on Button Bush

Swallowtail on Buttonbush

I’ve been fascinated by the Buttonbush with its round flowers that look like pin cushions. Happy with damp roots, there are a few growing along the boardwalk at the edge of the Magnolia Audubon Swamp within easy range but I’ve only produced ho-hum images.

Finally, I got a photo op with a Swallowtail Butterfly.

The butterfly edged his way slowly all around this flower, working his legs in between the flower pistils.

Upside down he gave a nice view of the underside of his wing.

  1. anotherday2paradise – Durban South Africa and Florida USA – I enjoy writing about absolutely anything, and started blogging with WordPress in 2012. This was my 'Hammock Lady' blog, and I really enjoyed sharing my travels here: http://adinparadise.wordpress.com/ In November 2013, I decided it was time for a change of scenery, so I started my blog afresh, and here it is. I love to travel, and have been fortunate enough to do two round-the-world trips and visit more than forty countries so far. This year we visited our 7th continent, Antarctica. I enjoy photographing wildlife, especially in my backyard in Florida. I was born and brought up in England. My husband and I emigrated to South Africa in 1970. We now live in Florida, USA. I have a son and a daughter and five gorgeous grandchildren currently aged between 6 and 21 years. I'm so happy that you've taken the time to visit my blog, and would love for you to join me on my travels. Sylvia.

Exploring Colour has been active since May 2017 and Dancing In The Current went live 09 January 2019. Exploring Colour is my main blog and Dancing In The Current is where I intend to share my forays into creative expression e.g writing, drawing, painting. I thought making a new blog would help encourage me to try new projects!

Just re-visited this beautiful post. The buttonbush flowers are SO cute! And of course the butterflies are amazing!

    1. Thanks, Liz! We are just starting to see a few butterflies, but I haven’t seen any Swallowtails yet. I think this group of trees got cut down last fall as they were invading the swamp. I know that is for the swamp’s health, but I did like them!
