The turtles are the most likely to be seen sharing space with other creatures around the swamp and ponds. They crave the sun just like the alligators on this reptile ramp and don’t show any fear in the presence of an alligator that could easily eat them.
Wading birds like this Great Egret like a sunny spot, too, and easily find a spot in between the turtles on a nearby ramp.
I don’t know what this “foot in the air” display from the turtle just to the right of the egret is all about, but a little further along in another small pond I saw it again, with both hind feet straight out.
Enjoyed these! It’s been a few months since we’ve seen any turtles😏. They do the balancing act here too…
They do make us smile! I hope yours are all safely tucked in the mud, or wherever they go under the snow.
What a crazy shot, the alligator and turtle! On the balancing act like kids do when letting their hands go on a bike, I’m sure he’s saying, “look Ma, no feet!” hehe
Yeah, it is crazy but we see it a lot! We’ve also seen the turtles get eaten so it’s not all fun and games! Wheeeee.
This looks like Magnolia Swamp (?)… great combinations of wildlife. Nice shot, Ellen.
It is Magnolia Swamp, one of my favorite places. They have just installed four new Alligator/Turtle ramps along the long side of the pond. It will be interesting to to watch the critters use them.
So beautiful and peaceful there. Love nesting season!
