Water flow between impoundments at Black Point Wildlife Drive is controlled by culverts and some birds take advantage of the man-made waterflow to find food.
This Green Heron appeared to be defying gravity as he leaned over for a peak,
pulled back up,
then finally took the plunge.
Through this exercise his feet hardly moved despite the algae covered cement he was perched on.

Incredible sequence of photos!
Thanks, Belinda! It was interesting to watch and I wouldn’t have been surprised if he had fallen in.
It’s amazing isn’t it? What their claws can grab on to for support. Great set of photos 😊
It sure surprised me especially when he stretched all the way to the water. At first I thought he was going to jump in when he located a snack. Thanks, glad you enjoyed them!
Amazing photos, Ellen!
Thanks, Pete! It was interesting to watch the stretch and I was ready for him to fall, or at least jump, in.
Awesome action series, Ellen! The shot of his neck fully stretched is amazing, you’d never know it was that long when they’re curled up!
Thanks, Donna! It was interesting to watch him unfold.
