On a limb dangling over the water this Green Heron was intent on his mission.

Slowly he inched his way to the end of the branch.

And leaned, and stretched, undisturbed by the passing dragon fly.

The branch bobbed under his weight and over he went.

He was after a stick for his nest, or at least that is what he came back with.
The birds color was caught very nice in harsh light. 😀
Thanks! He was quite a beauty.
Wonderful action sequence and narrative.
Thanks, Mike! He then plunged into the water and came back with a stick for his nest, all over in about three seconds of blur!
I was so drawn to these beautiful photos Ellen! I loved how intent the Green Heron looks, and the beautiful plumage against the green foliage, and the dragonfly flying by. Wonderful!
Thanks, Liz. That new green of the cypress trees is quite striking as a backdrop. The dragonfly was a bonus!
They are such single minded birds. Viewing your wonderful series makes me impatient for their return to our area!
They sure are–lots of other activity around him that he completely ignored. I feel for you, Belinda, after the long winter and slow spring start you’ve had.
Excellent action series! Only a stick? lol I thought he was gearing up for a strike on a big fish! 🙂
Thanks, Donna! I know, I was quite surprised and then after carefully placing the stick he flew off and I never saw him come back in the half hour I was there.
