A group of Roseate Spoonbills was preening and resting at the edge of a an old rice field yesterday morning. There had been a beautiful sunrise then the clouds filled in, dimming the morning light.
This is neat Ellen and agree with what Pete has said. But also, there’s something that really intrigues me about this photo – they seem to turn their head and bury their bill in their plumage like so many birds do when resting… but these have a very long bill with a spoon on the end! I guess they just fold their wings over and the size of the bill isn’t really an issue but it seems amazing to me!
Beautiful colours, light and reflections, Ellen!

Thanks, Pete! It is a real treat to see the Spoonbills, especially in the early morning light.

They are a bit goofy looking but somehow they make it work. That pink color makes them one of my favorites to watch and photograph.

Thanks, Belinda. I do like it when they line up in front of the grasses like that.
