A number of dragonflies were working the edges of the the swamp along the boardwalk. This Great Blue Skimmer chose a perch that gave me a good view.
The greenery made a nice background and the dragonfly stayed put while I went by him for a different angle.
Although the side view keeps more of the body in focus, Ellen, I am a huge fan of views that give you a better looks at the eyes, like your second shot. Dragonfly eyes fascinate me endlessly.
I agree, Mike, it’s great to see those eyes. I try to get multiple views, but as you know that doesn’t always work out! They are fascinating, with endless behaviors. I watched one in our back yard yesterday chasing flower petals falling from a Crepe Myrtle that I suppose he thought were a bug.
Chasing flower petals? The very thought of it makes me smile.
Yes, a little breeze was sending wisps of pink through the air 😊
Beautiful subject enhanced by the background. Very nice, Ellen!
Thanks, Belinda!
Hi Ellen, beautiful find! It almost looks like a jeweled broach that someone could pin to a sweater when they’re feeling fancy. I love it!
Thanks, Sandra. Fancy is a great word for them!
I love those eyes!!
They really are fascinating creatures!
