Great Blue Heron Pair Working On Nest

A Stuck Stick

I arrived at this Great Blue Heron nest just as the male was delivering a long stick for the nest. The female went to work.

But the stick was wedged in place.

She thought about it while her mate wisely looked the other way.

She pulled but that stick did not give.

GBH have short attention spans: she went back to prodding the sticks already in place and a few moments later he flew off for another bit of nest material.

  1. They are quite remarkable to watch as they busy themselves with their nest building, aren’t they, Ellen?! It always amazes me how they seem to have a real plan for where each stick goes (hope she eventually extricated it from its stuck spot😉!)

      1. Hi Ellen – question for you. Ted said that he has to approve every comment that I make on his posts. I’m not sure if the same thing happens with anyone else. Do you have to approve every time when I comment on your posts?

      2. Good morning! I think you and Ted have sorted this out but please let me know if it’s still an issue. I’ve never had that happen with anyone once I’d approved them. Our WP settings for comments appeared the same and yet, there you were with a little glitch. I think he “Unfollowed” then “Followed” your site, why that should matter I do not know.
