Eastern Pondhawk Dragonfly

Eastern Pondhawk Dragonfly on Ground

Dried leaves made a nice ground perch for an Eastern Pondhawk Dragonfly.

I changed my angle, getting more of the  green vegetation behind the dragonfly.

One more shift of my feet and a more interesting view of the curled leaf perch was revealed.

  1. I love all of the different angles. The first shot gives us the best overall view of this dragonfly’s body, but I am always a fan of the head-on shot, like the final one–he only had eyes for you. 🙂

      1. Like most dragonflies, Eastern Pondhawks can often be skittish, but sometimes I find a cooperative one that will let me get close.

      2. And how grand we have months to find those cooperative ones!

We had a giant dragonfly swooping our backyard late this afternoon, I’m hoping he’ll come back and slow down so I can see what he is. And get a picture.

      3. Good luck with the big dragonfly. I am off with a friend tomorrow in search of dragonflies–it is still really early here, so we need luck to find some too.

      4. We spent all day today looking for dragonflies and managed to find a couple of species, so my friend was happy–they were the first of the season for him.
