Purple Wildflower

Purple Wildflower

I spotted these purple flowers on the edges of a dike at one of the wildlife management areas I frequent last week.

There was a pretty stiff breeze that morning so I didn’t take a lot of images, and am sorry I didn’t get one of the whole plant.

Now that I’m looking closer, it’s a pretty interesting set up with all those flower pods.

  1. Virginia Spiderwort-Tradescantia virginiana. I love these flowers, we have them in our yard, and they bloom continually through the summer with all those buds opening over time. They attract Hover flies which make them even more special.

    1. Thanks for the ID, Steve! I can see why you love them—they have a lot going on from the color to that shape. I will keep my eye out for them if we get back there this summer.

  2. The face-on photo, 1st in the actual post, just has to be clicked on to enjoy the full enlargement .. stunningly beautiful! Thank you Ellen!
