There were two Pileated Woodpeckers in a Live Oak tree above my head, picking through the Spanish Moss and Resurrection Fern. The vegetation looks lovely in the tree, but sure limits photography of birds.
I never saw what they were eating but it appeared to be berries or nuts, and no pecking was going on.
It is likely this was an adult teaching a juvenile as a few times the younger looking one was just watching then got fed.
One came out into the open just before they flew off.

That is quite something Ellen to get a photo of one feeding the young. Great shots, I hear them around my place, but they are so hard to see. They are fast and take off quick if they see me moving.
Yes, I was pretty happy to see them together, even at that bad angle. Thanks. I hear them way more often than see them, behind our house and a few of the wildlife areas we frequent, hoping for a glimpse of that red-top!
I like what Ted said, it is the same for us here. I have seen the bears a few times but when husband is with, they are never around. 🙂
