Some green is starting to appear on the Cypress trees around the rookery, including in the tree that in previous years was THE sought after location. Multiple Great Blue Heron, Great Egret and Anhinga pairs vied for the best spots.
This year it has been empty, only occasionally serving as a rest spot, at least so far.

I’ve mentioned before that Charleston is a wedding destination and we have often seen wedding festivities and actual weddings.
This time it was the bride I glimpsed, as she was waiting for her turn to go down the aisle.

Snakes were what I saw the most of on my recent visit to Beidler Forest. I’m not a big fan, but have grown to appreciate their habits since moving to SC.
The positions they arrange themselves in are pretty interesting, including a little flare with the tail.
It was a partly cloudy day in the mid 70s (24-25C) and these three were in spots that were in and out of the sun.

I went to check on azalea reflections in the Mill Pond and found this instead. Azalea plants line the left bank and many of them sprouted new shoots that have grown taller than the blooms. We also had two nights of frost the previous week that killed any blooms that were exposed.

I don’t know why they call this a lake instead of a pond, but either way Goodson Lake is part of the amazing water flow that is known as Four Holes Swamp. On this mid-March day trees were leafing out but there wasn’t much bird or animal activity.
