Red-shouldered Hawks

A pair of Red-shouldered Hawks were hanging around near one of the ponds at Magnolia Plantation yesterday providing me another great opportunity for my first time using the OM System camera.

With fewer leaves on the trees and this one calling out I was able to spot him after he landed right above me.

Never posing together, they took turns on the dead tree and zooming in and out of the woods, seeming to enjoy the warm afternoon rather than hunting.

Wood Duck Pair, Late Afternoon Glow

I tried Ted’s  (tpjphoto.net) OM System OM 1 Mark II camera with the OM System 100-400mm lens yesterday. He’s been using the OM 1 original and the Mark II bodies for a couple of years with great results and is a real fan of the reduced weight. (I’m not sure if Olympus turned OM could have come up with a worse name for these cameras.)

I’ve stuck with Canon, but have started to notice a decrease in quality of my images and questioned if it was me or the gear.

This pair of Wood Ducks crisscrossed a patch of water that was lit by the late afternoon sun reflecting off some golden trees. I was pretty impressed, and yes, new gear is coming my way.
