Great Blue Heron Wings Spread for Landing

The Director’s Pose: Bird Style

The large egrets and herons make dramatic water landings that include looking a bit as if they are conducting a musical group.

The Great Blue Herons especially seem to easily maintain their balance and smoothly tuck their wings into position.

The Tri-colored Heron completes his landing with a little less elegance, his wing tip feathers working just a little harder for some reason.

  1. I enjoyed this post Ellen, your title and comments made me smile and you are so right. I love their style, and reflections. I love how in the 2nd photo the landing bird is so tall and the white bird in the background is meeting his own reflection in the water. They complement each other beautifully like you choreographed them, clever lady!
