Green Herons tend to be shy and I expected him to take off any moment.

From that stubby perch he surprised me and flew to a spot a bit closer to shore where he showed off his goofy head feathers and long beak.

Nice captures of the often elusive Green Heron, Ellen. I love these little guys and find that they have more personality than Great Blue Herons.

Thanks, Mike! They do tend to be tucked into the undergrowth; I was rather surprised to see this one away from the edge of the pond.
