The Red-shouldered Hawk that was sharing a snag with the Black-bellied Whistling Ducks blended right into the branch when he turned away from me.

The hawk opted to move on.

He didn’t go far, maybe just needed his own space.

These snags stand in one of the wetland cells created as part of the city’s water reclamation process.

I’m surprised the ducks don’t seem to be concerned about the hawk?
No not at all concerned, and I think these ducks are way to big for this hawk. Now, if there had been juveniles around, that would be a different story!
I just looked it up for curiosity: the weight of the Whistling duck is 23 to 36 ounces, and a Red-shouldered Hawk is only 18 to 27 ounces.
Ah! Thanks for looking that up. Understandable.
