Killdeer were another bird species taking advantage of the low water at the Rice Field pond.

This one was in a nice spot to make a reflection.

Was he going to take a bath?

Or fly?

No, he walked out of the water to sample some different mud.

I’ve grown to love these birds. We see them much more often on the pond-studded golf courses than in the wetlands. ☺️
They are beautiful! I didn’t realize they were considered a shore bird until recently. We had them in fields where I grew up in central Maine, 75 miles from the coast.
