Pileated Woodpeckers

I’ve seen and heard Pileated Woodpeckers near this spot at Magnolia Plantation & Gardens many times.  Last week I got a photo op of not just one,

but two, at the side of the exit road as I was headed to my car.

The youngster ducked into hiding while the adult worked his way around this oft trimmed tree.

Finally they came back together, with junior getting a taste of whatever the parent was finding.

    1. Thanks, Paz! I hear them way more often than I see them. This was a real treat to have them working a tree just at the edge of the road I was walking. That red top-do always makes me smile.

  1. Wonderful photos! I see these at our refuge, but they take off before I am able to get a photograph. How exciting to get a photo of more than one.
