If this juvenile Little Blue Heron’s presence was any indication this pond-side vegetation must harbor a lot of snacks.
Last spring I spotted him feeding here every time I passed by for several weeks in a row.
Step and poke, back and forth.
Success! A bird this size has to find an awful lot of small creatures to consume to survive– a full time occupation.

Fun to follow him, Ellen! I saw one just the other day (though he had a lot of blue patches already) with a great big frog in his mouth. I was amazed that he finally was able to swallow it all 😳
They are so pretty as they turn color, love those blue patches.
Sounds like his eyes were bigger than his esophagus! They never seem to give up though, no matter how hard the going is.
