Before I could get a bloom of one of these iris in focus I recognized movement over the water as being dragonfly-like. Knowing the flowers would wait I turned my attention to what turned out to be damselflies.
At least a dozen pairs of mating Damselflies in several colors lit in the iris patch. They were quite small; I may have over sharpened these images. I have more and will try something different.
Now I get jealous, it takes another 4-5 weeks before the dragonflies start moving here. The second picture is really delicious!
One of the joys of living in the south, Hans! Delicious, wow! I was quite surprised to get two pair, and on an Iris bud–delicious indeed!
These are stunning Ellen, they’re like jewels. I’ve enthusiastically shared your post on twitter: https://twitter.com/ExploringColour/status/1379544657487568899
Thanks, Liz, and thanks for the share! It really was quite remarkable to witness, and so close.
~feedback I got from [one] twitter follower: “Truly amazing pics of the amorous couples.” and “I hope Ellen knows her pictures are amazing”.
Wow, thanks for sharing that feedback, Liz! It sure was special to see.
Woohoo, fantastic, Ellen!
Thanks, Donna! It was pretty exciting.
Awesome image!
Thank you, and thanks for stopping by!
Great job, Ellen. It is always wonderful when you can capture perches as colorful as these, as contrasted with the plain stalks and sticks on which you often find dragonflies and damselflies.
Thanks, Mike! I was truly delighted to spot this activity on the irises and that the damselflies stayed around. It was a total surprise that day, which made it even better.
