A stake in one of my patio flowerpots served as a perch for a dragonfly on a recent sunny day.

It alternated between the obelisk “hand stand” posture and a lower position.

I was able to maneuver to an angle with a snap-dragon in the back ground.

There was a second dragonfly landing a few feet away but this one chased it off before returning to the same perch.

Great shots. I’d be happy to get one clear shot of a dragonfly.
Thanks! It sure is helpful when they in a good spot, and stay there!
You’re welcome.
I’m utterly charmed by these delightful photos Ellen!
Why thank you, Liz! So glad to know that you liked them.
Great shots Ellen, there are so many different kinds of dragon flies. I was down at the pond and I saw 3 different kinds, one was a very striking blue color. I could not get a shot of any of them, they would not sit still. I got back to my porch and a beautiful one I have never seen was sunning him self on a rock near me. So I finally got a photo of a dragon fly, but I still want to try and get a shot of that blue one.
Thanks, Sandra! Yes, hundreds of them and male/female & adult/juvenile differences compound ID 🙃. They have drawn me in as a photography subject and find them in an amazing variety of places. How fun to have them at your pond—good luck with your blue one!
