Thank you, Mike! I am enjoying getting the dragonflies lined up with flowers.
Thank you for the ID. I thought Great Blue Skimmer due to the white face, but the rest I wasn’t sure. I’m wondering if throughout their lives a dragonfly is steadily changing color, not just as it goes from juvi to adult, but ongoing.
Mike, I’ve just read in “D&D of the East” that color changes occur until death, so that answers that!

I think that there is a gradual transformation of the coloration of dragonflies as they age. Even with the females, the colors sometimes darken and/or fade and the bodies get scratched up from overly aggressive mating.
Wow! What a wonderful composition and a spectacular background for your dragonfly, Ellen, that looks to me to be a mature female Great Blue Skimmer.

Oh, that background, Ellen!! 🤗 🤗
Thank you, Donna! I was pretty happy with how it turned out.
Couldn’t ask for a better background and the dragonfly is nice too.
Thanks, Steve, I was pretty happy with the dragonfly’s landing choice!
