I was taking advantage of the shade of this tree on a recent hot morning when I spotted this very small dragonfly.
No bigger than a quarter {0.955 inch (24.26 mm)}, he was content to hang out in the shade, too.

So many beautiful dragonflies, you have much more than we here in Belgium.
There are! The Princeton Field Guide by Dennis Paulson that I use to help ID them says there are 461 species of dragonflies and damselflies in the US and Canada! Of course many are regional, but we know those regions are shifting with climate change and land development.
