Pied Bill Grebe Going Under

Pied-billed Grebes are excellent divers, often disappearing with hardly a ripple in the water.

This one treated me to a slow motion descent:

  1. Cute! I love these guys! Have you seen chicks these past couple of months? We had some fairly young Grebes recently, though, I only saw the small chick briefly several weeks ago.

    1. They really do make us smile 😃. I don’t know that I’ve ever seen chicks and this year I didn’t see nearly as many adults as other years. I didn’t get out as much this summer but even now our go-to places don’t have as many of any kind of birds.

      1. That’s good you are seeing them. It is so hard to distinguish yearly variation from actual change. Add in all the weather changes and the birds sure do surprise us.
