An island, or maybe just a tree line, where most of the palm trees are dead or dying. The morning we were there started out foggy and the Black Vultures were slow to get into the air. A few started flapping their wings, perhaps to warm up. At least one Roseate Spoonbill silhouette was visible and a Wood Stork flew by. It was quite spectacular.

    1. Many of them across Florida have succumbed to a bacterial disease that results in ” Lethal Bronzing.” It is theorized that it spread from Mexico or Texas via a storm in 2006. I don’t know if that’s what killed these ones; I’ve wondered if it is because they are in standing water year-round and can’t tolerate that much water.
I love them, too, and was amazed to learn there are around a dozen native varieties in the southeastern US.
