Possibly a Needham’s Skimmer, and the only angle I was able to get of this dragonfly, perched on a cattail that was past its prime.

My apologies to anyone who got a notice that I’d published this post then it wasn’t available. I clicked Publish by mistake while I was checking why I didn’t finish the post, so unpublished it. This is a good reminder for me to tag posts when I start them with the location and add the date. Thinking I’ll remember is just not going to happen.
I like the image for the mottled background and shape of the twig, so I’m clicking Publish intentionally now.

A stake in one of my patio flowerpots served as a perch for a dragonfly on a recent sunny day.

It alternated between the obelisk “hand stand” posture and a lower position.

I was able to maneuver to an angle with a snap-dragon in the back ground.

There was a second dragonfly landing a few feet away but this one chased it off before returning to the same perch.
