Close Quarters in the Rookery

A Snowy Egret landed in the fronds of a palm tree where a pair of Roseate Spoonbills had a nest.

The standing Spoonbill pushed at the Snowy Egret to move along. Not enough room here for all of us.

That didn’t work so both of the Spoonbills gave a squawk.

A double poke from the Spoonbills followed.

The Snowy Egret finally got the message.

Snowy Egret Flying By

The low water in this section of a rice field pond had attracted a small flock of wading birds to feed in a channel.

As usual, one Snowy Egret was zipping around instead of feeding like the others.

It was a grey day with the Snowy Egrets’ feet and eye patches providing the only bit of color.

Snowy Egret, Ashley River

I spotted this Snowy Egret while I was watching the Little Blue Heron Fishing in my last post. That’s the Ashley River at high tide behind him.

He stayed put basking in the sun as I got a bit closer for a clearer look.

He obliged me with poses of both sides and I couldn’t decide which I like better. The full shadow of his beak on his chest in the above image is kind of cool, but seeing his full eye as below is always a winner.

Snowy Egrets On The Move

A mixed bag of wading birds was feeding in this pool of water at the side of an old rice field pond.

Most of the birds were concentrating on feeding, but a few Snowy Egrets were busier coming and going.

This one came in for full spread landing.

And almost immediately another took off.

Curses on the mud blob ruining this reflection.

Good for me, the flight path he took crossed some clear water.
