Cassia: Wow on the Yellow
I remembered this delightful bush as I wondered some lesser traveled paths at Magnolia Plantation and Gardens a few weeks ago.
This plant is surely the gift that keeps on giving, as it was just covered with these shapely yellow blooms.
Some of the singles left on a stalk were real stand-outs.
Most of the plant was covered with these clusters.
I had posted images of this plant last December not knowing what it was. Fortuitously, the most recent Magnolia Newsletter had an image and identified it as Cassia.
A little plant research shows there are a number of varieties of Cassia and I’m just going to let it go at that.

Katydid, Swamp Sunflower
I spotted this Katydid in a tall stand of swamp sunflowers, a bit above my eye level.
The bloom shows signs of having been snacked on by something. If it was this fellow he had gone into post-lunch stupor as he never moved in the ten minutes or so I was there.

Pretty On Yellow
I first spotted the Carolina Anole finishing lunch.
He bypassed the fly and came out for some sun.
The Chrysanthemum blooms made a comfy perch.

Great Egret, End of Day
Trees lit by the late afternoon sun were reflecting in the pond between clumps of duck weed as a Great Egret passed by.
Cloudless Sulphur on Yellow Cactus Flower
These yellow cactus flowers in full bloom had a few Cloudless Sulphur Butterflies flitting around them.
And they do flit, with speed.
The overgrown vegetation around the cactus kept me from getting a better angle. The possibility of snakes was top of my mind.
The flowers on their own were outstanding.
