Thank you, Liz! I have just looked it up and found a reference indicating there are 28 native species of iris in the US and 7 of those have been found in the state of South Carolina. Unfortunately there weren’t any photos. I once heard an older guide here say that the iris spread around the swamp because an owner years ago didn’t like them and had them dug out from their original spot. They got tossed out but thrived where they landed. I’m not sure if that’s true or what their original origin was.
