I was on a dike and couldn’t alter my angle to the flight path of a series of wading birds coming in to feed. The birds were in and out of shadows cast by the pond’s tree line as the sun dropped lower.

This Wood Stork nicely dropped down just past me with his green-black wing tips lit by the sun.

Before they have hardly touched the ground these big birds fold up their wings and go about their business:

There were just 5 seconds between the first and last image, with those iridescent feathers tucked out of view.

Great shots, Ellen! I was out early this morning and Wood Storks were starting their day. I was just remarking to myself how wonderful their huge fluffy feathers are!
