Two Hooded Merganser drakes were showing off for a female, doing their best to strut their stuff.

The female didn’t seem to be that interested, and much of the action was one male crowding the other out.

Back and forth they went, in and out of reflections created by trees on the far side of the pond.

A second female circled around a few times but she didn’t distract the drakes from the first female.

Terrific images showing their behavior, Ellen. I’m not sure the female was that impressed. 😄
Thanks, Jane. It was quite a show, but I think you are right!
I love these, Ellen! Great action series, well done!! ❤️
Thanks, Donna! It was fun to watch right in front of me, rather than their usual “other side of the pond” route.
I can definitely relate to that!
Beutiful hooded guys, looks like spring feelings.
They are gorgeous birds, Hans, even the females are quite pretty though not so flashy. Spring was sure in the air.
Wonderful shots!! But I’ve been wondering why someone decided to name them “Mergansers”??? Not very creative. Haha.
Thanks, Michael! Like so many bird names, but not sure I could do better 😁.
