After visiting the sheep one day last week I continued across Middleton Place to the Mill Pond where two Alligators were taking advantage of the afternoon sun.

The smaller one plopped down after a short walk across the berm.

I had intended to go past the Mill building, but diverted to the left on an Alligator-free route, stopping for a different view of the big fellow.

It somehow seems slightly disconcerting to see alligators lounging on a gassy patch like that. Yikes.
I used to think so, too, Mike, but I guess I’ve gotten accustomed to it!
I think that the presence of alligators would tend to inhibit me a bit in my pursuit of dragonflies, since I am often at water’s edge (and occasionally in the water). 🙂
I know it does for me, Mike. I skip a lot of shots due to a healthy fear/respect of the gators, and lets not forget there might be snakes!
When they get up on those legs and walk on land, they are a bit more frightening to me. Just looks crazy! Great shots, Ellen!
Yes! And the stories you hear about them being able to run, although I’ve never seen one do anything but amble. Thanks, Donna!
