I caught this Black-crowned Night-heron dropping feet first into a clump of grass on a pond hummock.

It looked like a tricky maneuver and I doubted he would stick the landing.

With the bird weighing between 1 1/2 and 2 pounds (675-900 g), at the least I expected the grass to bend to the ground.

But the grass held up and there he sat.

I think you are right, Hans 😀, they all seem to just go about their business no matter how spectacular, or blundering, another birds’ actions are.
But he landed safely 🙂
Yes, he did! Rarely have I seen one that didn’t!
