Great Blue Skimmer, Modeling

Great Blue Skimmers have returned to my back yard this year. My patio flowers aren’t nearly as plentiful or colorful as what I had for last year’s visitors.

The dragonflies like to perch on dried stalks and plant stakes.

This one let me maneuver around until I had him lined up with a tiny bloom of a purple salvia that provided a bit of accent in the background.

Coots and a Dragonfly

There were a fair number of dragonflies about when we went to Orlando Wetlands in April, but no closeups as they were over the water or in alligator occupied grasses.

A good supply of gnats over the Coots’ heads kept a few dragonflies busy.

Skipper Butterfly on Thistle

Parts of Black Point Wildlife Drive were lined with thistle when I was there in mid-April. Most of the blooms had gone by, but a few were on a different schedule.

A few Skippers were taking full advantage.
