A Praying Mantis perched on the edge of a Morning Glory bloom

A slightly different angle with the 100mm Macro lens.

It is August and the Black and Yellow Garden Spiders are out.

The web was in the scrub at the steep edge of a pond, not very inviting, or safe, for the photographer to get the other side.

However, a did get a different angle of the vegetation growing on the slope for a completely different background look.

A close up of the zig-zag stabilimentum — pretty fascinating.

The garden beds along the banks of the Ashely River at Magnolia Plantation and Gardens almost always are worth a wander by for some insect activity.

Late yesterday afternoon this rather bedraggled dragonfly perched for a few photos.

The flowers, possibly some kind of salvia, had its own problems having been chewed on or maybe unable to withstand this summer’s heat.

From another angle you can really see how much of the wings are missing. Flight didn’t seem to be a problem.
