Drying and preening after a swim in a duckweed covered pond, this Anhinga was showing off his flexible neck.

It was a grey day and a mostly grey bird so not much contrast, but this Horned Grebe gave me quite a show.

He circled around in front of me, and even gave a flap…

and a stretch.

I was expected him to dive, which I had seen him do when I was some distance from him.

Diving wasn’t in his plan and he paddled away towards the Atlantic Ocean.

Not far from the duo of Common Gallinule I spotted among the marsh reeds, a single American Coot was paddling along.

We’ve reached the time of winter when last year’s grasses and reeds are dried out and falling over. This opens the view into the swamps, in this case to watch a duo of Common Gallinule.

American White Pelicans follow the fish when they are feeding, back and forth. The “forth” was good for me as they came a bit closer to the pond edge.

I was delighted to see a small flock of American White Pelicans feeding in a pond on our recent trip to Florida.

This fellow was happy to find them, too…

And ever so gracefully this huge bird dropped on in.

He had perfect alignment with the feeding flock…

And joined right in while the rest never missed a beat.
