A Roseate Spoonbill just wanting to refresh a bit on a hot morning was attracting attention. First an Alligator swam his way.

Then another Spoonbill came to see what the fuss was about, likely hoping some food was getting stirred up.

It looked like the first Spoonbill was getting “goosed.”

But it it didn’t bother him enough to move. The alligator observed from a respectful distance.

The water was lowered last week in the big pond at Donnelley WMA. Wading birds and the local alligators took advantage of the abundant food supply concentrated in a smaller volume of water.

Amazing how the spoonbills are unfazed by the gator 🐊😏🩷
It sure is…I’ve seen gators with wading birds in their mouths so it does sometimes turn out poorly for the bird.
Oh dear — a delicate balance in the wilds 😰
Yes, and everyone has to eat.
Exactly — just saw two bald eagles this afternoon scouting for lunch 🦅
