Young Alligators often perch on their mother’s body, maybe for safety or in this case a good sun patch.
Bulls Island is a barrier island off the coast of South Carolina made of a series of ancient sand dunes that run parallel to the long ocean side. Over time fresh water sloughs have formed between the dunes, home to many Alligators.

A large patch of wildflowers was in full bloom on the path across Bulls Island.

Yellow Iris are in bloom around one of the more manicured ponds where the Great Blue Herons hunt.
As they generally do, this heron took his time, watching the water carefully.
When I moved on the GBH stayed put, even as I walked behind him.

Almost three months later and in the same place as the photos for my post Little Blue Heron on the Hunt I spotted another, or the same, LBH.
Purple Iris dotted the scene.
The bird had the same patience…

The vegetation seemed to light the tail of this Yellow-rumped Warbler with an extra glow. It reminded me of holding dandelions and buttercups under our chins when we were kids.

On a late January afternoon I came upon a Snowy Egret in a dark corner of a local pond.
I moved a bit and got a different background lit by sunlight filtering through the trees.

I’ve been seeing dragonflies around for a couple of weeks.
Today was the first time I saw one perched long enough to photograph.
And on a just budding tree above my head no less!
