Whooper Swan and Purple Iris
A Whooper Swan was doing a bit of grooming with a purple iris backdrop at Swan Lake.
Swan Lake Iris Gardens is a public park in Sumter, SC and has been home to all eight known swan species.
Many of the iris beds have undergone thinning and resetting since we were last there so the flowers weren’t as dramatic, but it was still pretty nice!

Shades of Purple
In all stages of bloom, a mass of purple iris line the edge of the path where the statue “Recovery” is installed.
The base of the statue consists of a tiered fountain and pool. No pictures of the statue this time, too many people around.
I do like the white striations in some of the darker purple iris varieties.
And this last one, with its very rich velvety purple was a stand out.

The Iris Patch
This little patch of Purple Iris has been hosting a variety of insects, most notably the Mating Damselflies I’ve featured.
