Long White Bridge, Rear View

A lot of vegetation has been removed from the pond in front of the Long White Bridge at Magnolia Plantation over the last couple of years. Some was due to storm damage and some seems more like over zealous pruning. Previous years there would always be something flowering… Azalea, Magnolia, Calla Lily, Hibiscus…throughout the summer and into fall. This year has been mostly green whenever I’ve been.

This view is from behind the bridge when a late blooming Azalea added some color in a tangle of Star Hibiscus leaves.

Golden Silk Orb-weaver

Named for the color of its silk, this Golden Silk Orb-weaver’s web was in just the right light to see why.

A close up of the web, so interesting that the strands towards the center of the web (left) are spaced in a even grid-type pattern, and towards the outer edge the circular bands are closer together.

Strawberry Chapel, The Outside From Further Back

Strawberry Chapel from the back of the three acre property, at least as far back as it is cleared.

Strawberry Chapel
Cordesville, South Carolina

The Anglican Church established “chapels of ease” throughout rural South Carolina in the 1700s for members to attend services close to home without trekking to an actual church.

Built in 1725, Strawberry Chapel is the only remaining structure from the Childsbury settlement on the Cooper River.
