A few Great Blue Herons have come back to Ravenswood Pond, showing some signs of claiming nesting territory. This one was flying up and down the pond with great purpose. His competition was doing the same then after about a half hour they all flew off together, maybe to get breakfast.

There was lots of Alligator activity this week, despite the cooler temperatures. I counted seven Alligators floating in the pond behind the long white bridge at Magnolia.
This one treated me to a slow paddle across a colorful reflection.

The season is changing, looking more like autumn each day.
This was at the end of October when the changing hues of the grasses made a nice backdrop.
The water level in the pond was quite high. We’ve heard there is a plan to lower it sometime this month which will attract more birds with easier feeding opportunities.

The late afternoon sun was highlighting an artful pile of pumpkins and gourds at Magnolia Plantation and Gardens. A number of dragonflies were pleased to use the veggies as perches.

It was looking like fall, with the grasses fading to brown and the sun much lower in the sky on a recent morning at Donnelley WMA. The water was high in the big pond so wading birds were not feeding. A single Great Egret preened on one end of the Spoonie Tree.
And a Snow Egret posed in the sun on the other end.
