This perky bloom caught my eye, with a lovely shape and distinctly different color than the various Camellias and Tulip Magnolias that were flowering in the vicinity.

Gulf Fritillary
Gulf Fritillary was one of at least five butterfly species I saw on November 13 at Donnelley Wildlife Management Area.
As the morning warmed up more of them appeared.
The bank between the dike road and the big pond which has a variety of wild flowers and scrubby vegetation was attracting a lot of action.
Finally, a closed-wing view, showing off the underside of the Fritillary’s wing. Look close and you’ll see some fly action on the yellow blossom.

Orange Dragonfly, At a Point
An orange dragonfly chose a bent reed as his perch, lining up nicely for a symmetrical image.
Another Dragonfly, On Green
This dragonfly has an orange-ish tail. I don’t think it’s as colorful as Orange Dragonfly I photographed two years ago that Mike Powell suggested could be a Needham’s Skimmer.
There are other orange dragonflies, including the Golden-winged Skimmer. And let’s not forget that that variations in sex and age confound identification. So, a colorful dragonfly above the swamp.
Orange Monday
Orange, the color of fall. Maybe the flower is more red, but it sure looks like a fall color scheme.
And a little purple thrown in to keep the butterfly happy.
