More little goats hopping around, and checking out their world. I didn’t get to touch them, but they look incredibly soft.

Middleton Place has acquired some new smaller goats. Sorry I don’t know the breed. About four weeks ago three does gave birth: two sets of twins and one single.

We were at the stable yard when the animals were being fed and a worker told us that they had a scare when they couldn’t find the kids that morning. Turns out they were all tucked in this half barrel together.

I wasn’t quite prepared for them to be so nimble.

Hi!

Ted spotted the unmistakable swirl of a Dolphin as we walked along the river. I had the short 14-42mm lens on my camera, and no time to change as we knew from experience the opportunity would be short.
I got to an opening in the foliage and spotted the Dolphin well out of range down the river towards Charleston. Darn!
Then another surprise–two more Dolphin were following behind the first. These photos exceeded my expectations considering the low light and it was the first time I had used that lens.

The Middleton Place barnyard cat is something of an independent fellow that chooses his leisure spots based on his idea of comfort.

Here a bit of sun had been warming the bricks behind one of the barnyard displays. Ted called it a cauldron –toil & trouble and all that.

The cat didn’t care and clearly wasn’t worried about that giant thing falling on him.

My favorite picture of him is from 2021:Â Barnyard Cat, Stretch and Snooze

Assateague Island, Virginia is home to 120 or so wild ponies. We saw 18 or 20 from the “Southern Herd” on our recent visit, both from a boat tour and on the Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge wildlife drive.

This Fox Squirrel scampered along the road as we were driving out of Donnelley WMA, and per usual he headed into the undergrowth before I could get much of a picture.

They are cute, and the length of their tails makes them even more interesting.

Good bye!

I got out of the car with just my 18-200 mm lens and spotted this White-tailed Deer spotting me. I took a few pictures–far away and a dull day.

Then I sauntered back to the car for my long lens (100-400mm) and amazingly the Deer never moved while I got to a closer spot.

Until he did.

I went to Middleton Place this week and stopped by the barnyard to see the animals.  Most of the sheep were laying on the lawn, chewing their cud, with nary a care.

Usually they scatter when humans approach, but even the chickens roaming around them weren’t a concern on this afternoon.

Wishing you all a peaceful holiday season!
