An Ebony Jewelwing Damselfly perched on a leaf with a potential Mayfly snack on the underside.
A few minutes before I had watched another one of these damselflies chase a Mayfly. They both exhibited serious flying skills and that time the Mayfly prevailed. Here, I wondered if the damselfly knew the Mayfly was there.

A few dragonflies were perching on these giant leaves, which I believe are Powdery Alligator-flag.
The dragonfly, a Blue Dasher? I didn’t get a good enough image of his abdomen to see if there were stripes. The Great Blue Skimmer is described as “very large” … the Blue Dasher as “small.” Hmmm.

The Skinny Tree is hanging on and once again hosting a Great Blue Heron family.
There are three chicks, and amazingly all three appear to be thriving.
Other nests with triplets that I have observed over the years have at least one chick being much smaller and not surviving.
This year’s nest is pretty small compared to other years which will be a challenge for the family as the chicks grow.

An Ebony Jewelwing Damselfly, perhaps recently emerged based on the translucence of the wings.
Unfortunately his head isn’t in sharp focus, but the wings and shadow are interesting.

This Great Blue Heron had been slowly and methodically patrolling the edge of Ravenswood Pond, mostly in the shade and with a tree between us.
Then, he stepped into the clear, in a patch of sun. And caught a fish!

I was thinking of making this a Silent Sunday post, but anyone who ever spent time around Peacocks knows that just doesn’t fit. These birds can be a nuisance, but there’s no getting around their flashy color scheme.
A trio of Roseate Spoonbills was feeding in shallow water, weaving around a few Alligators.
