More of the Posing Great Blue Heron
Most of the old rail fence in Middleton Place’s barnyard has been replaced, time having taken a toll on its integrity. This last section made a nice backdrop for a resting Great Blue Heron a few weeks ago.

He didn’t move as I worked my way along the path behind him, the late afternoon sun bathing him in light.

He did lift his head as a few mallards jumped into the pond as his feet, then he hunkered right back down.

Red-bellied Woodpecker
A Red-bellied Woodpecker was very busy investigating a small hole in a tree limb.

From another angle the bird is nearly camouflaged against the rough bark.

He finally put his head up long enough for me to get a better view, but never came fully out of the shade.

Roseate Spoonbills, Pushy, Pushy
As breeding season ramps up the wading birds get a little pushy.

The above Roseate Spoonbill took a short flight to an occupied branch.

And pushed at the occupier…

…until the first bird moved on.

Sometimes you just need your own space.
