Long White Bridge, Rear View
A lot of vegetation has been removed from the pond in front of the Long White Bridge at Magnolia Plantation over the last couple of years. Some was due to storm damage and some seems more like over zealous pruning. Previous years there would always be something flowering… Azalea, Magnolia, Calla Lily, Hibiscus…throughout the summer and into fall. This year has been mostly green whenever I’ve been.
This view is from behind the bridge when a late blooming Azalea added some color in a tangle of Star Hibiscus leaves.

Touch of Fall, 2022
Once again this year my visit to see my folks in Maine was about a week too early to partake in serious leaf peeping. Dry conditions most of the summer throughout the state are expected to have a muting effect on leaf colors this fall so I may not have really missed out.

Sunset From Bulls Island
We were on Bulls Island to photograph the Milky Way, but the sunset got our attention for a few minutes.
With my back to the sun the hundreds of dragonflies in the air as the sun set were quite a sight.

Lone Roseate Spoonbill in the Spoonie Tree
The Spoonie Tree is still standing, and a single Roseate Spoonbill was perched there on my last visit.
I took a walk down the dike and an hour later he was still there, and still alone.

The Big Pond, A Sunny Day
The clouds were making a nice reflection in this pond where the water level has been raised and some of the vegetation is dying back.
The grass fronds on the back are still going strong.

Low Tide Creek at Donnelley
This is nearly the same scene I took at high tide on August 10th. Here the tide had actually made the turn and had started to rise, but water was still draining out of the creek.

Great Egret Swamping It
While paddling around the swamp looking at Water Lilies we spotted one Great Egret, patiently looking for his lunch.
This was the Egret’s view out into the swamp.
